Alliance for Queer and Underrepresented Asians in Recognition of Intersectionality to Uphold Solidarity

AQUARIUS seeks to empower the university’s queer Asian community and its allies through educational programming and providing a platform for individuals to share their experiences. The organization unites the mosaic of identities that exist in the queer Asian community and broadly in Asia–Asia being merely a geographic term that can not broadly describe race, ethnicity, culture, religion, socio-political climate, and countless more found throughout diverse Asian nations. (Founded 2017/2018)

Trans Action Building

Trans Action Building exists because they wholeheartedly believe that students, alumni, researchers, staff, and faculty of the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, as well as the larger community of the City of Pittsburgh must come together to fight anti-trans sentiments and support trans, non-binary, agender, genderfluid, gender questioning, genderqueer, and gender diverse peoples' ability to live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Trans Action Building is a group comprised of Pitt students, faculty, staff, and community members including students from other Pittsburgh universities. They are not a SORC recognized student organization.

Transgender Working Group

The Transgender Working Group was established in 2016 in an effort to ensure that all University community members feel respected and valued.

The Transgender Working Group is comprised of faculty, staff and students from various groups and departments including: Academic Affairs; Facilities; Housing; Institutional Engagement & Wellbeing; Rainbow Alliance; and Student Affairs.

The group studies best practices in higher education, evaluates current University processes, and makes recommendations for creating a more inclusive campus for transgender individuals. The Working Group has implemented trainings for staff and faculty, responded to individual concerns or issues, and provided guidance on university wide initiatives such as the preferred name initiative.

If you have questions about the group or if you would like to bring an issue to the Working Group’s attention, please email Carrie Benson.
