To Be Oneself

This session from the 2021 Diversity Forum focused on understanding the experience of transgender people within the broader social landscape we share, and how we can shift the cultures of our institutions and communities in ways that stop the erasure of trans lives.  Theories that narrowly tether notions of gender to body will be challenged, and ways to move communities and structural systems forward will be addressed. The panel was moderated by Julie Beaulieu (she/they) Lecturer for the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program and 2019 Bellet Award Winner for Teaching Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh.

A Conversation About Pitt’s Commitment to LGBTQIA+ Faculty, Staff, and Students

The University of Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh Campus has just been awarded 5 out of 5 stars on the Campus Pride Index, a national ranking of LGBTQ-friendly colleges and universities. On the heels of this recognition, the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) and Pitt Queer Professionals (PQP) hosted a town hall conversation for the Pitt community to discuss the progress the university has made to be more inclusive of LGBTQIA+ faculty, staff, and students; and to discuss actions the university should undertake to be more affirming, welcoming, and supportive of LGBTQIA+  members of the Pitt community.
